Blue Moose Methodology and Trajectory

(relative to production aesthetics)
Inspiration => Concept => Process => Execution => Outcome => Goal/Dream => Product

  1. Inspiration
    1. Pinkwater’s book and libretto (narrative)
    2. Sensibility to which the book and libretto caters (pre-adolescent and adult)
    3. Musical score (20th century neo-tonality w/ expressionistic overtones)
  2. Concept and Process
    1. Sources and influences
      1. Decadent (versus classical) style with its depreciation of the whole to the benefit of the part
      2. Expressionism wherein enviroment is adversarial to normal perception and psyche
      3. Avant-gardism and its four root tendencies: the amplification of romanticism’s cult of childhood, the edification of the absurd, the exploration of the subconscious (also onericism), the cultivation of ambiguity
      4. Pop(ism) with its anti-mystical beatification of the popular, the kitschy and the everyday
      5. Chinese literati aesthetic (the practice of calculated awkwardness)
    2. Philosophy regarding the approach and process to realizing The Blue Moose (as agreed upon after a telephonic discussion with the author, Daniel Pinkwater)
      1. As relates to the author’s participation in the development and realization of production aesthetic, the process should be “syncretic” rather than collaborative (“I have done my work this is your Blue Moose. And I look forward to being thoroughly surprised.”)
      2. As relates to the creative team’s (Andonyadis, Cork, Dierdorff, Petrovic, Schindelmann) approach in the development and realization of an aesthetic, the process must be both “syncretic” and collaborative (as syncretic as assemblage; as collaborative as a quilting)
