OUTSIDERS

(characters who are noncommunicative with other characters onstage)

NARRATOR(extra-dimensional), YETTA (poltergeist or Noh ghost): [They] communicate with the spectator through narration and commentary.

DAVE (soul without a mouth; a solitary being): does not communicate directly with other characters who populate the stage.

INSIDERS

(capable only of perfunctory communications with others; not able to indulge in meaningful conversation)

BRETON: Culture and convention restrict his capacity for spontaneous expression resulting in his inability to effectively communicate with YUPPIES and BOBOWICZ.

BOBOWICZ: speaks in legalese derived exclusively from print. It’s the only way communicates in compound sentences.

YUPPIES (brainstems with chowder-eating mouths/social creatures): communicate in response to stimuli, both internal (instinct/appetite) and external (interrogative).

INTERLOCUTER

MOOSE: opens up a line of meaningful communication between BRETON and himself, between BRETON and the YUPPIES, as well as potential verbal communication and immediate nonverbal communication between BRETON and DAVE. He enables BRETON to dialogue.
